Welcome to Year 2!
Our Teacher is Miss Fairclough
Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Ireland
Mrs Sherlock teaches us on a Monday afternoon and Mrs Scarborough teaches us on a Tuesday afternoon.
Our topic this half term is called...
In Literacy, we are reading 'The Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. We are going to be exploring the story and focusing on how the characters emotions change at different times of the story. We will be showing this by writing letters and diary entries. Then we will be planning and writing a brand new story!
In Maths this half term, we are learning about fractions. We will be finding fractions of objects, shapes and quantities.
In our Science lessons, we are going to be growing our own plants and learning about what plants need to be able to grow healthily. We are also going to be finding our about the plants that we can eat!
This half term in our Computing lessons, we are learning about the importance of staying safe online. We are going to be finding out about how information that we put on the internet leaves a 'footprint', identifying websites that are suitable for children, identifying kind and unkind online behaviour and applying our knowledge of safe and sensible online activities to different situations.
In our Art lessons this half term, our focus artist is Claude Monet. We are going to be learning different artistic skills and using them to re-create Monet's famous 'Bridge over a pond of waterlillies' painting.
Every half term, the children in Year 2 are given a 'homework menu'. It is expected that children complete at least 4 activities over the course of the half term. We want children to enjoy doing their homework so we try and make the activities as fun as possible. Here is a copy of the latest homework menu:
We are also very lucky to have 'MyMaths' in school. Homework is set through MyMaths too. If you need help logging in, please see a member of staff who will be happy to help. If you are using a tablet device, you will need to download the 'Puffin Academy' app.
PE days are Monday and Tuesday
Please ensure all items of PE kit is clearly labelled and in school. They will remain in school until half term. Please ensure you have removed any earrings on this day as children will not be able to do PE with earrings in and that long hair is tied back. Please note that adults in school are not allowed to remove the earrings and plasters over earrings are not permitted.
Weather permitted the majority of the lessons will be outside so please provide warm clothing, e.g. leggings or tracksuit bottoms.
This half term's reading challenge is 25 reads! If you read your home reading book 25 times, you will be able to go to the special reading treat at the end of the half term. Keep reading!
It is fantastic that most of our parents are all connected with Class Dojo to see how your child is getting on with earning their points and checking in with the Class Story.
We regularly use the messaging aspect of Dojo for communication so please look out for any messages and feel free to send either of us any messages or ask any questions.
Please note that it can take up to two working days for staff to reply to messages on Dojo. Messages will not be read or replied to during weeknights between 6pm - 8am or at any time during the weekend.
If you have any questions or queries then please do not hesitate to contact me.
